Where We Stand
Diversity
The campus climate survey revealed what many students already knew: our school needs to change. We will advocate for measures that foster a safe, respectful campus climate for all students. We will push the school to not cut and instead expand scholarships and programs that make our school affordable and accessible for students of all backgrounds. We will refocus and strengthen the Diversity Affairs committee by clarifying the distinction between Diversity Affairs and Community Engagement and building relationships between RSOs and SA.
Accesibility & Inclusion
SU and ESF have taken steps to make their facilities and resources more accessible, however more needs to be done. All buildings are ADA compliant but this is only the minimum standard. We will call for the school to move beyond ADA compliance in order to ensure that the campus and school resources are truly accessible. We will push for mandatory diversity and inclusivity training for RSOs.
Transparency
By redesigning the SA website and restructuring Assembly members' office hours we will improve communication between the Student Association and the student body. We will push SA to rewrite the bylaws to transform SA office hours into engagement hours.
Student Resources
We will continue SA's advocacy for mental health, push for more resources for international students, and support plans to extend free tutoring services to all students.
Sustainability
The Campus Framework Draft calls for reducing Syracuse University's carbon footprint. We will advocate for the adoption of solar energy, waste reduction strategies in dining halls, and student education about recycling and sustainability.
Community Engagement
The City of Syracuse supports our school in many ways. We believe that our school must give back and serve the community. We will continue SA's current strategy of partnering with campus groups and community organizations to plan events and initiatives. We will support these organizations by promoting and facilitating ongoing partnerships and long-term actions. We must not simply be the school on the hill.
